Paulo Busse Ferreira Filho has over 25 years’ experience as a consultant and trial lawyer in all sorts of criminal cases, acting from the investigatory proceeding all the way to the Upper Courts.

He has a longstanding experience in representing individuals and legal entities in cases related to economic criminal law, financial and tax crimes, money laundering, unfair competition, environment, industrial and intellectual property, freedom of the press and expression, and others.

Paulo also provides advisory services, offering preventive guidance and risk assessments, conducting crisis management, and coordinating internal investigations, training and capacity-building programs.

He is also experienced in drafting legal opinions on a wide range of topics of criminal law.

He represents witnesses and those under investigations before Parliamentary Inquiry Committees (CPIs) and other public bodies and authorities.

When necessary, he assists the Public Prosecutor's Office, and drafts and files criminal complaints in cases of private criminal action.

He is also seasoned in dealing with sensitive investigations involving the handling of issues of high complexity and at cases that expand beyond national borders.

Furthermore, Paulo applies his extensive experience in criminal law practice to cases of public interest aimed at reducing inequalities, protecting the environment, pursuing climate justice and defending human rights.

He has over 20 years’ experience assisting environmental and human rights organisations in matters related to criminal law, representing them in court and in communications with authorities, drafting and submitting communications on crimes and other illegalities to relevant authorities, in Brazil and abroad.

He has a longstanding experience in defending activists being criminally framed, threatened and attacked for their work in protection of the environment and human rights, and in planning and coordinating sensitive investigations aiming to identify and collect evidence on environmental crimes and other violations.

Along with international  lawyers, Paulo drafted and submitted an Article 15 Communication to the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court on crimes against humanity perpetrated against traditional populations of the Amazon between 2011 and 2021, filed on behalf of Climate Counsel, Observatório do Clima and Greenpeace Brasil, supported by Comissão Pastoral da Terra - CPT, Greenpeace International, Global Witness and Instituto Zé Claudio e Maria (www.brazil-crimes.org).

He devises and implements cutting-edge strategic litigation on humanitarian criminal law, environmental protection, climate justice and human rights related matters.

Author of academic papers and speaker in conferences and seminaries in major universities such as UCLA, Columbia, NYU, Central Saint Martins, Carlos III de Madrid and others. Often consulted by journalists, practitioners, academics and public officials on matters relating to criminal law, environmental destruction, climate justice, human rights, crime-fighting and protection of democracy, in Brazil and abroad.

Coauthor of the Brazilian Ecocide Bill submitted to and currently under deliberation at the Brazilian Congress aiming to criminalise acts that knowingly cause significant, widespread or lasting harm to the environment (ecocide). One of the 25 legal experts from 14 Latin American countries integrating the group responsible for drafting the Model Law on Ecocide for the region (2026).

Marcela Calixto has solid experience in public, constitutional and administrative law, acting as a consultant and litigator, with a special focus on strategic litigation in the administrative and judicial spheres.

She has a master's degree in State Law, subarea of ​​Constitutional Law, from the University of São Paulo (2025), where her research object was the interaction between the ministers of the Federal Supreme Court and public opinion.

Member of the Constitution, Politics and Institutions research group (Copi-USP) since 2022.

She was a researcher at the Center for Law and Political Economy at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (NUDEP/FGV-SP), in the Politics and Wealth Reproduction (PoWER) project, which investigates public policies that facilitate or hinder the reproduction of wealth in different countries.
